Oregano
To my surprise, I stumbled across a bush of oregano in my grandad's garden. I currently take oregano in gel capsule form to support my gut and help kill off the rest of the SIBO (small intestine bacterial overgrowth). I have also used it in the past with great success for IBS. Some people can take the oral drop form, but I am not one of those people. I tried it once, and it was quite an unpleasant experience, to say the least.
Oregano is a super herb. Its antimicrobial properties help fight bacteria, viruses, and fungi, especially several strains of bacteria, including Staphylococcus aureus, E. coli, and Salmonella.
Another cool thing is, now that you're making the gazpacho, you can add a little oregano. Tomatoes are rich in lycopene, vitamin C, potassium, vitamin K, and dietary fiber, while oregano contains rosmarinic acid, flavonoids, phenolic compounds, vitamin K, manganese, iron, calcium, and fiber. Together, they work in synergy and enhance antioxidant capacity.
Oregano is also a great essential oil to have at home. Its scent is known to have calming effects, reducing stress and improving mental clarity. If you own an air diffuser, add a few drops to purify the air thanks to its antimicrobial effects, which help reduce the presence of bacteria and fungi in indoor environments.
