Foot Fascia Love
There are a few things I always travel with: a good essential oil, a few great books, a ceramic cup and a matcha whisk, massage tools, and cork balls—yes, cork balls. After completing my somatic stress release training, where we worked extensively on fascia, not a day goes by without my cork balls.
One thing I find myself doing the most is working on my feet. As someone who loves to walk (sometimes for hours on end), the absolute best thing after a long day is to come home and roll the soles of my feet on a cork ball. Of course, you don’t need cork balls—a tennis ball or any small, firm ball will do the job just as well.
As soon as I start rolling the ball down the five rays of the sole, I feel my stomach start to activate, and other parts of my body signal for attention. It’s a fascinating reminder of how interconnected everything is.
It’s something I find incredibly grounding and restorative. Here’s how I like to approach it:
Choose Your Tool: A cork ball, tennis ball, or any small ball that feels comfortable under your feet.
Start Gently: Roll the ball under your foot, focusing on the arch, heel, and each ray (the five lines running from your heel to your toes).
Listen to Your Body: Never press too hard or continue if it feels painful. It should feel like a gentle release, not a sharp discomfort.
Breathe and Tune In: Notice how different areas of your body respond. This simple practice can connect you to your body in surprising ways.
Not that you need all the facts, but I personally love knowing the amazing things happening in my body when I put in the work. If you start falling in love with this practice, here’s what’s going on: you’re boosting blood flow, delivering oxygen and nutrients to your tissues, and improving foot alignment for better posture and balance. By rolling your feet, you’re also activating reflexology points connected to key organs like the stomach, liver, and kidneys, while supporting meridian pathways such as the Kidney, Liver, and Spleen Meridians, which help with grounding, digestion, and emotional balance. Beyond the physical, this simple act fosters a deep connection to the Earth’s energy, leaving you feeling more stable, calm, and vibrant.
So, grab a ball, tune in, and let your body share its story.
